Win a copy of Emese Varga’s newly released children’s book, written here on Gozo.
We love sharing uplifting stories and Emese Varga’s is both heartwarming and inspiring. Like many across the globe, during the pandemic, Emese found herself at home, without her regular job and initially lacking motivation. However, she’s no defeatist and after a few days, she started to see possibility in the situation and began to explore her passion for drawing and writing. From here Inspirator Books was born, and Emese fulfilled a dream to write, illustrate and publish Good Morning Little Butterfly, a children’s meditation storybook. Her inspiration came from her own meditation journey and being a mother of two gorgeous children.
Emese moved to Malta from Hungary five years ago, before retreating across the channel to live on Gozo last year; she expresses such gratitude for the islands’ warm and supportive community spirit. Around ten years ago Emese was searching for a way to help her relax and cope with stressful situations, which took her on a journey of yoga, breathwork and meditation techniques.
Meditation comes in many guises and means different things to different people; however, the core principles are calmness, going inward to quieten the mind, instilling positivity and connecting to yourself. The idea of introducing meditation to kids at an early age fills our hearts with joy as did reading Emese’s book…and we totally think parents will benefit from it too. We live in a wonderful but highly stimulatory world and meditation can be an amazing tool to balance the noise and bring some peace to the mind, body and soul. It’s accessible to everyone, you just need to find what works best for you, be it a walking meditation, mindful painting, a yoga flow or a guided still practice. For Emese, writing and drawing have become her meditative techniques.
Emese has always used storytelling and imagination to help her children overcome challenges and to sleep well. She uses characters, images and storylines to deliver positive messages. Good Morning Little Butterfly is an adorable tale of a butterfly’s journey to various coloured flowers, each colour represents one of the seven chakras, the energy centres of the body. In turn, each flower delivers a hopeful message to the butterfly, representing the chakra functions in an easy to understand and soft way.
How can You teach your child to meditate?
Children can practice meditation in so many ways, Emese says. Here she shares some of her simple and effective techniques:
- Walks in nature
- Engaging all the senses
- Colouring or painting
- Building rock piles
- Meditation storytime (talk about the story, the colours, their meanings)
We asked Emese to share a mantra with Gozo In The House and she gave us utter gold. She explains that this mantra can be a difficult one to master as we always try to speed up the natural process, but believes that all we need is trust and if it is meant for us, we will get it. Amen!
You can buy Good Morning Little Butterfly on Amazon. The book is published in Hungarian and English, with versions in Polish and Russian coming soon. Emese’s next hopes are for a Maltese translation, especially as her daughter can’t wait to give the book to her local friends.
