It was held in the beautiful setting of Esplora in Kalkara with Dr. Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando initiating proceedings, addressed by Co-ordinator and Chair of The Marigold Foundation and under the patronage of Mrs Miriam Vella, First Lady of Malta who shared her own personal story of dealing with the loss of her mother who was only 59.
breast CANCER: The Facts
One in eight women will face the fight against cancer during her lifetime. In Malta and Gozo, around 300 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Adopting a healthy lifestyle may reduce one’s risk of developing breast cancer. Early diagnosis through breast awareness and regular mammography screening will lead to better outcomes and improved survival. The bottom line is – early detection can help save lives and detecting cancer at an early stage requires education and support.
Support The Pink October Campaign
This year, a dedicated team of volunteers are focusing not just only on breast cancer but other common female cancers that on our islands remain sadly, taboo. These include cervical cancer, frequently developing from STD’s and ovarian cancer. The whole Pink October and Movember campaign urges people to be open with such issues, learn how to prevent getting sick, how to check yourself and do the necessary screenings and tests to take control of your health. Facing your fear is the first step.
GITH Magazine urges you to support Pink October by visiting the Pink October Facebook page or Instagram and learn more about the events over the coming months. With your help, this campaign will continue the sterling work it has been doing over the last six years and continue to educate our nation.
