Montenegrin-Swedish journalist and visual storyteller Mina Karadzic stops traffic with her flame red hair and epic gozo imagery.
Mina usually runs a small record label but happenings for that, for now, have been tragically put on hold. Since finding herself on Gozo, she has turned to her second love photography to while away the time. It’s clear taking photo’s is her work and a passion and it was her spellbinding portfolio of self-portraits and images around Gozo that caught our eye here at GITH.
Use to travelling she was initially in a state of shock when the pandemic hit but she did her best to think outside the box and find some meaning in the smaller things life has to offer. A lesson for us all. She champions Malta for the way it has dealt with COVID and although extremely new to the island, she feels its’ charm and has been exploring it daily with her camera in hand. “On such a tiny island there is so much to explore and experience. I love it.” She said.
Mina is also a brand ambassador for a Bucharest-based fashion brand and she is currently planning some shots for their new collection so feels she has found the perfect location. That alongside staying healthy and sane and challenging herself to see things from a different perspective is keeping her fairly busy. She is also a keen gardener and loves planting and gardening. “Having your own vegetables is such a precious thing!” She says. Perhaps she could pick up a few tips from Xavier Hancock feature?
I love the fact that one image can transfer more emotions and sometimes give a stronger message than a whole chapter of words.

Slowing down has been a good thing, she feels. But also, it has made her think of how important it is to catch the day. “Itโs good not to be too slow as it will lead you to avoidance and numbing, and you will lose the opportunity to really work on yourself. Self-care is not all about sitting on the couch and watching Netflix!”
Thanks for sharing your art with us Mina and she leaves us with her own words of wisdom…
“Donโt forget to take care of yourself. Eat healthy, drink a lot of water and smile. Laughter is a great remedy.” Mina Karadzic.
