Andrea Britton And Keith Anthony Release Christmas Single Ahead Of Brand New Entertainment Series For Gozo.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT IS USUALLY THE BEATING HEART OF THis SEASON’S CELEBRATIONS But this year is a little different…
The current pandemic has brought the performing industry to a standstill worldwide, causing financial anxiety for thousands of artists, event organizers, venues, and other industry workers. These people, who are usually responsible for making the world feel good, rely on live events to make ends meet and there are thousands of people across the Maltese islands that are now feeling the hit.
Zeppi’s is one of Gozo’s’ most respected grassroots live music venues, steeped in musical history but when the bar was forced to close due to Covid, unfortunately, the music went with it. They, like other venues across the island, provided a stage for musicians daily – that’s a lot of people out of work and a lot of people not doing what they do. Artists Keith Anthony and Andrea Britton can often be found performing at Zeppi’s and have experienced first hand the enormous downside to not performing. They were recruited by owner Sonia Xerri over a chicken curry and soon after, Backdoor Jam was born! The live platform at Zeppi’s and it’s legendary Sunday Jam will soon be translated into a brand new series of weekly intimate performance sessions online featuring a whole host of home-grown talent… oh – and it will be beamed worldwide.
The team, together with GITH Magazine, hope to create a positive from a negative and end this crazy year with some awesome live entertainment whilst putting Gozo firmly on the digital music map. So…although the backdoor at Zeppi’s remains temporarily closed, this little music bar now gets to write a brand new online chapter. THE CHRISTMAS SINGLE
In solidarity with all the out-of-work artists in the industry and continuing the #letthemusicplay worldwide campaign, Keith and Andrea have joined forces on a self-penned Christmas tune called ‘Sing Out Yourself’. This song hints at the differences the world is currently experiencing but has the necessary feel-good factor we all crave for the forthcoming festive season. Recorded at Noise Studios with super cool musicians Pawlu Portelli (drums), Izzy Azzopardi (keys), and Pinu Zammit (bass), aka Rubberband, proceeds will go towards funding the forthcoming series and raise funds for artists that will feature on Backdoor Jam – which launches 21st December. They are appealing to fans and supporters of live entertainment everywhere, to contribute financially by buying the single and donating to this worthy project.
